Butterfly Pea flower (Clitoria ternatea) is a plant native to Southeast Asia. It’s commonly referred to as pea tea or blue clitoria ternatea. 
It’s a perennial herbaceous plant in the Fabaceae plant family. The flower looks very similar to an orchid and has a striking blue-purple color. In its natural undisturbed manner the plant is a climbing vine that also produces small peas that are edible when they are young. Butterfly pea flowers are high in antioxidants and is virtually caffeine free. In addition to making teas and tisanes the pea flowers are also used to color food and beverages.
Because this plant is high in protective antioxidants, it’s consumed in extract form and teas to help fight free radicals and inflammation and promote overall health.  
The flower’s bright blue color emerges during the brewing process. In addition, when the liquid is mixed with an acidic ingredient, such as lime, lemon or pineapple juice, it transforms into a shade of royal purple. 
Brewing instructions: Brew one teaspoon of tea with one 8-ounce cup of hot water for 3-5 minutes, sweeten to your desired preference and enjoy. Great hot or cold.
